About My Book

Why? Because We Still Like YouWhy? Because We Still Like You, published by Grand Central in October 2010, tells the behind-the-scenes story of how The Mickey Mouse Club paved the way for all that came after, from its humble beginnings as a marketing ploy, through its short but mesmerizing run, to the numerous resurrections that made it one of television’s first true cult hits–all through the recollections of those regular kids-turned-stars who made it a phenomenon. It reveals the untold stories of Annette, Darlene, Cubby and Karen, Bobbie and the rest of the beloved cast. It will explore, through the reminiscences of former fans who grew up to be some of television’s finest minds, what made the show so special. And it will examine why the formula the creators of the show invented is more relevant than ever in the age of Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Glee.

Your endorsement means so much … there’s no better website than yours for all things Mouseketeer.

Jennifer, that is a spirited, entertaining, and informative book. Thanks for researching and writing it. Just as you describe in the book, I am among the millions of 1950s’ kids who, to this very day, can’t get enough of _The_Mickey_Mouse_Club_ and tributes and memorials to the people–like Walt Disney, Bill Walsh, the ineffable Jimmie Dodd, and all of the Mouseketeers–who caused us to have an insatiable appetite for everything about it. You tell a moving story about the sacrifices made by Disney on-camera talent and off-camera operatives to create the three years of inspired television programming. I hope that your highly creative tribute to them and the continuing devotion of fans like me will help even the most skeptical Mouseketeer cast members to believe, as we do, that the sacrifices were worth the treasure that they deposited into the annals of humankind.
